Prepare

Preparation is essential to minimizing the financial impact the RACs could have on your hospice program.  Although we do not know yet how aggressive the RACs will be with hospices, it is highly unlikely hospices will be ignored.  During this interim period as we wait for the RACs to get fully functional and figure out what to do with hospices, there is an opportunity to get ready and, to a large degree, ensure that the RACs go away empty handed when they come knocking on your door.

Preparation for the RACs involves conducting baseline audits and assessing levels of risk.  It also involves retooling the audit and monitoring functions of the hospice's corporate compliance program and taking a proactive stance toward future RAC activity.
