You do not need to be afraid of the RACs. Making certain that your hospice can withstand whatever RAC scrutiny may come your way is not as hard as it may seem at times. The RACs are not yet targeting hospices and there is an opportunity NOW to make certain that each and every claim submitted for payment is for care provided to patients that are eligible for hospice and/or for the level of care provided. Very little activity at the RAC Forum to report. It continues to be available to people who have registered at RAC Assistance for Hospice to share information and questions regarding the RACs. An interesting question has come up several times that is worth discussing and we could use some help finding answers.
It continues to be quiet on the hospice RAC front. There is no RAC activity directed to hospices beyond occasional (very occasional) RAC outreach sessions. The RAC for Region A (DCS) finally posted some issues on its website and has begun RAC audits. Interestingly,

No news from the RAC Forum. It is just sitting there waiting to be helpful.
The RACs have not yet begun targeting hospices and may not until 2010. Why should hospices worry about them? No one knows at this point how intense the RAC scrutiny of hospices will be. Could all this RAC concern be a case of much ado about nothing? (more…)
